TOOLING DESIGNER, INJECTION MOLDINGSpaceX is leveraging its experience in building rockets and spacecraft to deploy Starlink, the world’s most advanced broadband internet system. Starlink is the world’s largest satellite constellation and is providing fast, reliable internet to 10M+ users worldwide. We design, build, test, and operate all parts of the system – thousands of satellites, consumer receivers that allow users to connect within minutes of unboxing, and the software that brings it all together. We’ve only begun to scratch the surface of Starlink’s potential global impact. As we continue to upgrade and expand the constellation, we’re looking for best-in-class engineers to join the team.As part of the materials engineering team, you will provide expertise and capabilities to developing processes for the production of plastic injection molds. You will make an impact on SpaceX’s Starlink product components alongside a strong group of mechanical and process engineers. The goal of the team is to develop new manufacturing methods, commission equipment and qualify processes to be introduced into production.RESPONSIBILITIES: Own parting line development and surfacing of in-house molds and componentsResponsible for all design for manufacturability (DFM) studies on plastic injection molded componentsOwn and manage the feasibility and surfacing of critical mold componentsInterpret mold filling simulations and cooling analyses to drive feasibility and tool designDesign tools to be manufactured in-houseSupport external tool designs and attend mold trials at vendor shopsEnsure designs are safe, effective, and manufacturableBASIC QUALIFICATIONS:5+ years of professional experience as a designer3+ years of feasibility and mold flow analysisExperience with Siemens NXExperience with designing injection moldsPREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:Extensive knowledge of standard mold componentsExperience with hot runner systemsKnowledge of mold flow analysisExperience with multi-shot, compression and other toolingKnowledge of drafting practices and principlesUnderstanding of strength of materials, automation, part assembly and process control techniquesADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:Must be willing to work extended hours and weekends as neededMust be willing to travel (up to 25%) to external suppliers and other SpaceX facilitiesITAR REQUIREMENTS:To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicant must be a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (aka green card holder), (iii) Refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) Asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
