Job Title: Pipe Welder

Job Description

This position supports a large high-rise construction project in downtown Denver, focusing on welding carbon steel and stainless steel piping systems for commercial mechanical and plumbing applications. You will perform TIG and Stick welding in the field, producing high-quality welds while strictly adhering to safety and quality standards in a dynamic construction environment.

Responsibilities

  • Weld carbon steel and stainless steel piping systems used in commercial mechanical and plumbing applications on a high-rise construction project.
  • Perform high-quality TIG and Stick welds in the field, ensuring all work meets project specifications, safety regulations, and quality standards.
  • Use TIG welding techniques including scratch start processes and back purging to complete precise and clean welds on various pipe sizes and schedules.
  • Work effectively in a variety of environments such as man lifts, ladders, and confined spaces while maintaining safe work practices.
  • Prepare and set up materials, equipment, and work areas for welding tasks, ensuring proper alignment and fit-up of piping systems.
  • Complete and pass required Stick welding tests, including 6” schedule 80 carbon steel pipe in 6G position with 6010 root and 7018 fill and cap, 2” carbon steel super coupon in 6G position with 6010 root and 7018 fill and cap, and 1” carbon steel plate structural test in vertical and overhead positions with 7018.
  • Complete and pass required TIG welding tests, including 2” schedule 40 316 stainless steel pipe in 6G position and 2” schedule 80 carbon steel pipe in 6G position.
  • Follow all site safety procedures and guidelines while working at height and in challenging field conditions.
  • Collaborate with other trades and project team members to support efficient installation of mechanical and plumbing piping systems.

Essential Skills

  • 4+ years of industrial or commercial pipe welding experience preferred.
  • Strong proficiency in TIG welding, including experience welding in the field using scratch start processes and back purging techniques.
  • Proficiency in Stick welding on carbon steel piping and plate, including ability to perform 6010 root and 7018 fill and cap welds.
  • Ability to weld carbon steel and stainless steel piping systems to commercial mechanical and plumbing standards.
  • Capability to weld in all environments, including in man lifts, off ladders, and in confined spaces, while maintaining safety and quality.
  • Ability to successfully pass required Stick welding tests: 6” schedule 80 carbon steel pipe in 6G position with 6010 root and 7018 fill and cap; 2” carbon steel super coupon in 6G position with 6010 root and 7018 fill and cap; 1” carbon steel plate structural test in vertical and overhead positions with 7018.

  • Solid understanding of welding safety practices and safe operation of equipment such as man lifts and ladders.

Work Environment

The role is based in downtown Denver on a high-rise construction site, working Monday through Friday. The work involves field welding of carbon steel and stainless steel piping systems, using TIG and Stick processes and standard construction-site tools and equipment. You should expect typical outdoor and indoor construction conditions, with adherence to site safety rules and appropriate job-site attire and protective equipment.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $60.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
